Positioning infant baby car seats

Infant baby car seats are very important to the safety of your child while he/she is traveling in a vehicle. All newer seats meet all the safety regulations that have been established nationally. The correct installation and the correct seat can be the difference between injury and no injury should you become involved in a crash. Many fire departments and police departments offer clinics to teach you how to correctly install your seats and to ensure that they are correctly installed. All types of seats should be installed in the backseat. The front seat is deadly if your car has a passenger airbag. There are several types of car seats available - infant, convertible, forward facing toddler seats, and booster seats.

Positioning the infant seat in the front seat would not be a very wise idea because the baby may be seriously hurt or even mortally injured by the passenger side airbag. To avoid this, the baby booster seat would be safer if it were placed in the rear-facing car seat because this position supports the baby's neck, spine, the baby's upper body, and the head by even spreading the crash impact across the back. And it would be advisable to opt for this position until your baby is twenty pounds and a year older or more.

The infant baby car seats are useless without ample support from a harness. And the best booster seat harness in circulation is the five-point harness. The harness is named that way because it is designed with two straps that lock the hips, two straps that secure the shoulders, and it is locked between the legs. To be sure that the harness is tight enough, try to pull the straps on the baby's shoulders and if you cannot, the harness is set.

And make sure that the straps are flat on the baby's body, not twisted. Most likely the harness has slots and you need to adjust the tightness of the harness as the baby grows older. With so many infant seats for cars available with more than a thousand models, that is the reason why you really need make an effort to carefully read the instructions on the manual.

When installing the baby seat onto the car, the common mistake of parents is that they mount it slackly. Keep it tight and firm, and the infant's seat has a base that is detachable, always ensure that the base is securely fastened. To determine if the infant seat for the car is installed properly and securely, you should not be able to move the seat more than inch forward and to the sides.
